The second day of the Tubeless Standardization Construction and Quality Improvement Project and the National Live Surgery Broadcast Activity unfolded with an impressive array of live-streamed surgical demonstrations. Expert teams from nine major medical centers across China showcased a total of 32 Tubeless thoracoscopic minimally invasive surgeries, including complex and high-difficulty procedures such as Tubeless lung transplantation and Tubeless single-port thoracoscopic pulmonary segmentectomies. The event attracted a remarkable 97,000 views, reaffirming the growing interest in this cutting-edge technique.

Groundbreaking Tubeless Lung Transplantation

One of the highlights of the day was a Tubeless double-lung transplantation surgery performed by Professor Xu Xin, Director of the Organ Transplantation Department at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University and Vice President of the Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Health. This technically demanding procedure drew 15,000 live viewers, showcasing the transformative potential of Tubeless techniques in one of thoracic surgery's most challenging domains.

Lung transplantation is traditionally dependent on endotracheal intubation and ventilator support, often resulting in extended postoperative recovery. However, the innovative Tubeless approach eliminates the need for intubation, allowing patients to maintain spontaneous breathing during and after surgery. This breakthrough not only minimizes lung injuries caused by mechanical ventilation but also reduces diaphragmatic dysfunction, accelerating recovery and improving patient outcomes. With fewer drug-related side effects, Tubeless lung transplantation offers a faster, safer, and more effective rehabilitation experience.

Stellar Performances by Leading Teams

The day’s agenda featured an impressive lineup of surgical demonstrations:

· Director Yin Weiqiang performed a Tubeless left lower lobe dorsal segmentectomy, a Tubeless anterior mediastinal mass resection, and a Tubeless right upper lobectomy with seamless coordination from his team.

· Directors Zhang Man and Li Fuli from the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University showcased precise Tubeless thoracoscopic sub-lobar resections, sparking enthusiastic discussions among participants.

· Professor Yang Yunhai and Professor Chen Tianxiang from Shanghai Chest Hospital led multiple Tubeless single-port thoracoscopic procedures, including complex lobectomies and resections using advanced 3D visualization.

· Teams from the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, led by Professors Li Xiangnan, Qi Yu, and Yang Yang, performed five intricate Tubeless lung surgeries, including segmentectomies and lobectomies.

· Professor Zheng Bin and Professor Xu Guobing from Fujian Medical University Union Hospital combined precise anesthesia with surgical precision to complete three Tubeless pulmonary segmentectomies.

Innovative Techniques and Seamless Collaboration

Director Qiao Guibin from the Department of Thoracic Surgery of Zhujiang Hospital of Southern Medical University led the Zhujiang Tubeless team to complete two Tubeless thoracoscopic lung surgeries. Director Qiao Guibin has superb skills, and Director Mo Kai from the Department of Anesthesiology is highly experienced. With precise anesthesia and tacit cooperation, they perfectly demonstrated the key points of the Tubeless technique.

Professor Zhang Zhenfa from Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute & Hospital led his team to complete a high-difficulty Tubeless + magnetic navigation positioning + single-port thoracoscopic right lower lobe S9 + 10 resection + regional lymph node dissection (for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).

Professor Pan Xiaojie from Fujian Provincial Hospital affiliated with Fuzhou University led team members to demonstrate two Tubeless thoracoscopic pulmonary segmentectomies and one Tubeless thoracoscopic pulmonary wedge resection.

Professor Xu Hai and Professor Ning Jinfeng from the Department of Thoracic Surgery of the Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Harbin Medical University led their teams to complete a total of five high-quality Tubeless single-port thoracoscopic lobectomy surgeries.

Professor Zhang Weidong and Professor Li Mingjiang from Tianjin First Central Hospital led their teams and cooperated closely with the anesthesia team led by Professor Li Jinyuan to complete one Tubeless left upper lobectomy.

As the second day of the Tubeless Live Surgery Week concludes, the excitement continues to build. In the coming days, teams from leading hospitals across China will present additional Tubeless thoracic surgeries, covering a wide range of cases from thoracic tumors to lung transplantation. We believe that with the joint efforts of all experts and colleagues, the Tubeless technique will continue to mature and improve continuously!
