Establishment of the Alliance for Early Screening of Lung Tumors and Tubeless Minimally Invasive Technology

To effectively reduce the incidence and mortality of lung cancer and promote the rehabilitation process of patients, the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University and the National Center for Respiratory Medicine jointly initiated the establishment of the Alliance for Early Screening of Lung Tumors and Tubeless Minimally Invasive Technology.

To effectively reduce the incidence and mortality of lung cancer and promote the rehabilitation process of patients, the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University and the National Center for Respiratory Medicine jointly initiated the establishment of the Alliance for Early Screening of Lung Tumors and Tubeless Minimally Invasive Technology. On October 12, the awarding ceremony of the Alliance for Early Screening of Lung Tumors and Tubeless Minimally Invasive Technology was launched at the opening ceremony of the first China Respiratory Health Conference.

According toNational Health Commission, in 2022, there were 1.0606 million new cases of lung cancer in China, accounting for 22.0% of all malignant tumor incidences. The incidence and mortality rates of lung cancer are 75.13/100,000 and 51.94/100,000 respectively, showing an overall upward trend. The prognosis of lung cancer is poor. Although the 5-year survival rate of lung cancer patients in China has increased in recent years, it is still at a relatively low level. If detected and treated early, the 5-year survival rate can be significantly improved.

However, traditional lung cancer screening and treatment methods have certain limitations. The emergence of tubeless minimally invasive technology has brought revolutionary changes to the early diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. Professor Jianxing He, director of the alliance and Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Health, further introducedthat tubeless minimally invasive technology greatly reduces the pain and discomfort of patients by eliminating endotracheal intubation and drainage tubes, improves the comfort and appearance of postoperative patients, realizes local problem and local solution, accelerates the rehabilitation process and reduces postoperative complications. In particular, through the innovative concept of immune regulation, it effectively controls excessive immune responses, promotes patient recovery, and provides a strong guarantee for surgical safety. The team of Professor Yingyao Chen from the Key Laboratory of Health Technology Assessment of the National Health Commission and the team of Professor Jianxing He jointly carried out a health technology assessment research project of tubeless minimally invasive technology based on the real world, comprehensively evaluating the clinical safety, effectiveness, economy, innovation and patient value of tubeless technology in lung nodule resection, providing scientific basis for medical decision-making and policy formulation.

“We hope to establish such an alliance to raise public awareness of the importance of early screening of tumors and further promote the early detection and treatment of lung cancer. Especially in the context of the popularization and cost reduction of CT equipment in China, it will help promote the implementation of large-scale lung cancer screening, thereby improving the cure rate of lung cancer, reducing the mortality rate of patients and improving the long-term survival rate through the application of tubeless minimally invasive technology. The establishment of the alliance also strengthens the cross-disciplinary cooperation of disciplines such as surgery and anesthesiology, promotes the innovation of medical technology with Chinese characteristics, and contributes a ‘Chinese solution’ to the development of world medical technology.” Professor Jianxing He said.

The alliance has currently absorbed more than 150 member units, covering large hospitals to county-level hospitals. In the future, it will focus on promoting the “lung tumor screening project” and holding “lectures on the diagnosis and treatment of chest diseases”. By researching and applying new early screening technologies for lung tumors, establishing standardized and standardized screening processes, establishing data management systems and carrying out publicity and promotion, the public’s participation in lung tumor screening will be increased. At the same time, through training and promotion of tubeless minimally invasive technology, formulating standardized operating procedures, and exploring innovative applications, the level of diagnosis and treatment of chest diseases will be improved, and public understanding of knowledge on the diagnosis and treatment of chest diseases will be enhanced through lecture activities.

People always dread lung cancer surgery. However, with the continuous promotion of early screening of lung cancer and tubeless minimally invasive technology, lung cancer and its surgery will no longer be a source of fear in patients’ hearts, but bring the dawn of hope and health. Tubeless minimally invasive technology not only attracts extensive attention in China, but is also recognized internationally. The tubeless minimally invasive technology of Professor JianxingHe’s team has been included in the anesthesiology textbook of Harvard Medical School, fully demonstrating China's international influence in the field of respiratory.
